What is Rainbow Hearts?......
Our family loves rainbows and hearts. If a heart has the color of a rainbow or a rainbow is bespeckled with hearts, then all the better! The rainbow is a symbol of the gay community. It symbolizes the colorful diversity that makes up our community…that, indeed, makes up our world. The heart is symbolic of love and, for my family that is what we are all about. We are a family that often ‘brings it in’ (a.k.a. gathering in for a group hug).
And it precisely because we want to show how wonderfully healthy and vibrant diverse families can be that Claudia and I have decided to create this blog entitled Rainbow Hearts.
Diversity in terms of family structure and dynamics exists here in Portugal. There are gay households here. There are families with two mommies or two daddies. And, of course, there are also many other types of families along various other lines (e.g. households racially and/or ethnically diverse, culturally diverse, etc). As Claudia and I are two married women (married to each other that is!!;) living in Portugal from different cultural backgrounds (Claudia is Portuguese and I am American) with a beautiful, young daughter and many feathered and furried pets to complete our happy household, we thought it was about time to start spreading the news. Diverse families are here to stay!
We will use this space to share some of our day to day adventures, to discuss issues that are near to our heart, and to hopefully be a resource for other diverse households here in Portugal and beyond. The following are some of our subject heading that we will use to share our content:
About Us: That is what you are reading now!
Home: Where we place our weekly, biweekly or monthly posts. We hope to post every week, but raising a family and running a business keeps us busy.
Evan’s art gallery: Here we will highlight some of Evan’s art work, especially pieces that capture elements of our family and our family structure.
Life Before the Blog: There are a lot of stories and anecdotes that we want to share with our readers that relate to before the start of this blog.
Claudia’s Heart Art: This is a space where Claudia’s puts her heart out in her artwork.
