The girls and I arrived on time for us to drop their bags at Clara's and then head on to the hosipital. We arrived at 9:30. During our initial reception about thirty minutes later, the doctor was closely studying my file, asking questions, and offering information. Cláudia then noticed that some of the pages she was reading had a different name from mine on them. Apparently, parts of some other patient's file was mixed in with mine and the doctor was reading them, thinking they were mine. The doctor seemed agitated and irritated by that. She left the room and came back later with a nurse and resumed as though nothing had happened. I just hope they realize it is my thyroid that is comng out and not my liver or some other more vital part of me. That incident was not at all reassuring.
They seem very nice here despite the earlier mix up, but I do feel a little isolated at the moment. Cláudia and I decided it was better for her to take Evan to her sister and cousin's house back in the Torres Vedras area. Apparently, I may be in here a day or two longer than I had thought...at least according to that first consultation. They won't let Evan visit me in the room. We had been made aware of when had asked over the phone. I would have to meet her in the waitng room. However, it really is not a waiting room - just two hard wooden benches in the hall way. That hard fact, coupled with having seen some of the patients in the ward where I will be staying, I actually don't think I would feel too comfortable sitting out there too long. I would probably have to drag my drain with me. Cláudia can visit me from 12-8pm but not if Evan is with me as she would have to stay with her. Suffice to say, Cláudia has left to take Evan to enjoy fun summer stuff with her primo. I am hoping that my sister-in-law will bring her by on Wednesday.
So I am waiting in what seems to be the activity room or T.V. room on my ward. Sitting here, with my overnight bag at my side, just wating and wating and waiting.
